Rule versions and drift
Understand how rule versions are pinned to a supervisee, how AuditHalo detects when a board changes a requirement, and how to upgrade an assignment.
Last updated Sep 14, 2026
This guide explains how AuditHalo keeps rules current: how a version is pinned to each supervisee, how the product detects when a board changes a requirement, and how you move a supervisee to a newer version. Keeping rules accurate is the core commitment behind the product, so this matters.
Versions are pinned per supervisee
When you assign a rule, the supervisee is pinned to a specific version of it. Their compliance is evaluated against that version, even if a newer one is published later. This is deliberate: a supervisee's requirements should not shift under them without a decision.
Drift detection
AuditHalo monitors the citation source behind each canonical rule. When the source changes, the rule is flagged as potentially drifted, which is the signal that a board may have updated a requirement. Workspace admins review these signals and publish a new rule version when a change is confirmed.
Upgrade a supervisee to a new version
When a newer version of an assigned rule exists, a banner appears on the supervisee's detail page offering the upgrade.
- Open the supervisee at
/dashboard/roster/[superviseeId]. - Review the rule-update banner and what changed.
- Apply the new version to move the assignment forward.
The supervisee is now evaluated against the new version.

Note: Review what changed before upgrading. A new version can add or tighten a requirement, which may open a new gap for the supervisee that you will then work to clear.
Auto-apply rule updates
Supervisors can opt in to apply rule updates automatically, so assignments move to a new version without a manual step. Set this preference on your account page at /dashboard/account.
To snooze a specific rule-change prompt instead, dismiss the banner; AuditHalo holds it for a period before surfacing it again.
