Org rule overrides

As an HR admin, adjust a canonical state rule for your organization by tightening requirements, changing checks, or adjusting severity, within the limits AuditHalo enforces.

What you’ll need

  • An HR admin account
  • A canonical rule your organization already uses

This guide is for HR admins. An override adjusts a canonical state rule for your organization without changing the rule for everyone else. Use it when your practice holds supervisees to a stricter standard than the board minimum, or when you need to tune a specific check.

Overrides live in the rules admin at /dashboard/team/rules.

When to use an override versus a custom rule

  • Use an override to modify a rule AuditHalo already provides for a covered state.
  • Use a custom rule for a state AuditHalo does not cover. See Creating custom rules.

Create an override

  1. Go to /dashboard/team/rules.
  2. In the canonical rules section, open the rule you want to adjust.
  3. Edit the structured fields (hours, durations, fractions) or the checks (add a custom check, remove a canonical one, change severity, or replace a check's parameters).
  4. Save the override.

The rules admin shows a summary of what your override changed: how many requirements are tighter, looser, or removed.

Note: Severity can only be downgraded within the limits AuditHalo enforces. You cannot quietly weaken a board requirement past what the canonical rule allows, so an override cannot make a non-compliant supervisee appear compliant.

Manage overrides

  • Active overrides appear in their own section of the rules admin.
  • View an override's version history to see past changes.
  • Deactivate an override to return affected supervisees to the canonical rule.

Every override change is recorded in the audit log with its diff, so the organization can show exactly how and when its rules were tuned.
